Hold down the “Mute” and “Volume Down” keys simultaneously for around 20 seconds. When the ring light becomes orange on an Echo device, it has been reset.

Generations three and four 

Hold down the “Action” button until the ring light flashes orange, which should take around 25 seconds and then shuts off on Echo devices.

Echo Show

If you have an Echo Show with a screen, follow these steps to reset it: 

1. Ask “Alexa, go to settings,” or you can access it by sliding down the top screen and tapping Settings.
2. Then select “Reset” under “Device Options.” 
3. Choose “Factory Defaults” from the drop-down menu. 

You can also press and hold the “Mute” and “Volume Down” keys simultaneously for 15 seconds to reset an Echo Show device.

Lastly, the “at a schedule time” causes thing to happen, much like an alarm. If you program it for six in the morning for Monday through Friday, that’s when it will happen. Pretty self-explanatory. 

Knowing these options, you can create a routine working around what you need, whether it be at a specific time or triggered by a particular word or action.

The routine making process

Let’s learn how to create an Alexa routine now. To do so, follow the steps below:

1. Launch the Amazon Alexa app and open the menu option. Select “routines “and create a new one. 
2. Once you have chosen and you’re ready, click on the “+” sign and add the phrase you wish to be the trigger word. 
3. Then you can play around and pick and choose actions such as volume, Alexa responses, news, music, and traffic. Don’t be fooled, as these are just the tip of the iceberg of what Alexa can do with a routine. 

Remember, if you’re using “a schedule time, “you will need to program a specific amount of days of the week and exact hours. Now that you are done, remember to always check your routines by using the trigger words or setting it up right before the time so we can be tested out.

If you’re having issues with an already set up routine, look through it to ensure yourself that the hour isn’t wrong or the days aren’t incorrect. 

You could also make sure your trigger word is correct and the events are in the sequence you wish them to be in. Minor issues like that can cause your Alexa routines not to work.

Set both your devices up

Before connecting both devices, we must first ensure that they are set up and working individually. The Nest Camera and the Amazon Alexa devices should both be connected to the same Wi-Fi, allowing them to communicate.

Nest Camera set up

Before connecting Nest and Alexa, make sure your Nest is functioning correctly and is connected to your home or personal Wi-Fi. 

Here are the steps to set up your Nest Camera:

• Download the “Nest” app from the Google Play store or the App Store
• Open and register for a Nest account.
• Once you are signed in, add your Nest camera by using the plus sign and scanning the camera’s QR code. You can also input the serial number if you need to so.
• Make sure you name your camera depending on the location it will be in, such as kitchen, living room, or background. This makes it easier, later on, to organize and ask Alexa to work on it.
• Plugin your camera into its power source, and it should blink blue.
• Lastly, check your Nest app and select the network you want to connect the Nest camera to.

Once you are done with the steps above, use the video footage of the Nest camera to set up the correct angle and cover as much space as you would like in the set room.

To set up your Nest to Alexa to be able to control it via voice.

• Download the “Alexa” app through the App store 
• Once you open and log in to your Amazon account
• You should open the menu and select the “skills” option on the homepage.
• Type in “Nest” and enable the use. This will connect your Alexa and your Nest together. You will then be asked to sign in to your Nest Account.
• Select your camera, and you are all set up.

Checking that they are connected

To guarantee you followed all the proper steps, ask your Amazon Alexa the following: “Alexa show me the backyard camera.” Or “Alexa, display backyard camera.”

You should replace “backyard” with the name of your cameras, such as kitchen, dining room, or camera 3. Name the cameras as you wish in the Nest app.

Remember! You can only do this in an Alexa Show as it is the only Amazon Alexa device with a screen. Echo dots and flex cannot show images or videos; therefore, you cannot ask them to display your camera.
