How to add storage to the Amazon Fire Cube

Want to add more space to your Amazon Fire TV cube?

Yeah, I know that sometimes you just want to have more space for your Apps, and there's a serious limitation on the Fire Cube. But there's a solution for that.

Humm, so 16GB is not enough to have all your apps running?

Do you really need more space? Yeah. if you are like me, the answer is "yes I need more space" 🙂

So, let's check how to increase the space on your Fire TV cube.

How to add storage to the Fire Cube

You can add extra storage to your Amazon Fire Cube via an external USB drive. That can solve your problem with the lack of space. That's cool, huh?

OK, let's cut to the chase.

You need an OTG cable which is basically a USB-C to USB adapter, to have an extra USB port for your USB hard drive.

Here are the steps to add storage to your Fire Cube.

  • Connect the fire TV cube to the OTG cable;
  • Turn the TV on;
  • Go to the home screen;
  • Plug the USB drive into the OTG cable;
  • Wait for the Fire Cube to format the USB drive;
  • And it's done.

Please follow these steps in order and plug the USB drive into the OTG cable only after you have your TV on the home screen.

The Fire Cube should find the USB drive and format it automatically, but you can manually format it if that doesn't happen.

Here are the steps to format the USB Hard Drive in the Fire Cube.

  • Go to Settings My Fire TV USB Drive;
  • Click on “Format to Internal Storage”;
  • Select "Yes" to confirm.
  • Wait for the format process to finish.

After formatting the USB drive, your Fire Cube can use it as a dedicated storage. You can't use it for something else.

And that's it. Now you can enjoy the extra space on your Fire Cube.
