How to set up Wyze Cam cloud storage

In this article, I show how to set up Wyze Cam cloud storage.

It's a simple process that keeps your data safe.

You can have your Wyze Cam recording to the cloud for 14 days.

It's possible to use the Free cloud storage or pay for a subscription.

I prefer paying for the subscription because it's inexpensive and allows me to have more videos recorded, so I feel safer (more on that later in this article).

Wyze Cam cloud keeps your data safe

Alright, you can have your Wyze camera recording to a micro SD card.

The setup is very simple and there's a step-by-step article on how to do that.

So, why should I use the Wyze cloud storage if the camera can record locally?

The answer to that is very simple. You can have a backup in the cloud just in case something happens to your camera, it can be stolen or damaged by fire 🙁

Here's another reason. If there's a break-in into your place the camera can store the video in a safe place such as the cloud server. 

Wyze Cam Free Storage Vs Paid Subscription

After buying your Wyze Camera, you have access to 14-days Free cloud storage.

However, there's a limitation. It's possible to record only 12-seconds video clips.

And to make things worse, there's a cooldown period of 5 minutes.

So the camera waits for 5 minutes before start recording again.

Yeah, you get the Wyze Cam cloud storage for free but it comes with this serious limitation which I think is terrible. This is not usable at all. >:(

So, it's better to use the paid subscription. It's inexpensive and worth it the price.

Let's talk about the subscription plan and the advantages.

How to make Wyze cam record longer

That's easy, you can use the Complete Motion Capture service that allows your cameras to use the Wyze Cam cloud without the limitations I talked before.

It costs only $1.49/month and there's a free trial for 14 days.

It's not necessary to use a credit card to enable the Free trial.

Yeah, I think it worth the price, I'm using it and I have a lot of recorded videos.

I recommend you to record in a micro SD card and on the cloud at the same time.

How to enable the Wyze Cam cloud recording

1. Open the Wyze app on your mobile device;

2. On the bottom right, click on "Account";

3. Click on "Wyze Service";

4. Then click on "Complete Motion Capture";

5. Follow the step-by-step instructions.

Make sure your camera is using the latest firmware version, it's possible to upgrade it directly from the Wyze Cam App. 

And that's it. Now you Wyze Cam is recording on the cloud. Easy, huh?

How to check the cloud recording

Once your Wyze Cam is recording to the cloud you can have access to the footage directly from the Wyze App. It's available on the Event Menu.

On the Wyze App Home Page click the button "Event"

A new window shows everything that is recorded on the cloud.

It's a good idea to record the footage in more than one place.

By recording on the micro SD card and the cloud at the same time you guarantee that the footage will be available when necessary.
