How to Reset a Vizio Smart TV

By reading this article, you’ll learn why you might need to reset a Vizio Smart TV and how to hard or soft reset your TV with simplicity.

Smart TVs have become the standard for anyone looking for a better television viewing experience throughout the years.

While TVs like the Vizio smart TV are inexpensive and have a lot of cool features, they can occasionally have technical issues that require resetting.

Users have two options for resetting their Vizio smart TV: soft reset or hard reset.

A hard reset allowed users to delete their TV’s firmware and stored data, restoring it to its factory default condition, whereas a soft reset merely entails power cycling the TV.

Variety of Reasons to Reset a Vizio Smart TV

Resetting your Vizio smart TV, like your smartphone or any other smart device, is a typical repair hack; in some cases, it’s all you need to return it back to full functionality.

The following are some of the reasons you might need to reset your Vizio smart TV:

  • The TV’s smart features aren’t working correctly.
  • If you’re selling or buying a Vizio smart TV from someone else, you may need to reset it. (It enables you to delete your personal or saved data, preventing the next owner from viewing it.)
  • The Vizio smart TV is really sluggish.
  • You want to get your smart TV back to the way it was.
  • The smart television is stuttering or stalling.
  • Different-colored displays are not displayed or seen on television.
  • Even after hitting the power button on the TV or the remote control, the TV will not turn on.
  • The built-in smart TV applications frequently crash.
  • You’ve forgotten your smart TV’s password or can’t get to the home screen on your TV.
  • There’s a sudden loss of audio output or problems with visual playback.
  • You’re having trouble connecting to your wireless network.

Resetting a Vizio smart TV, contrary to common perception, is a safe and effective solution to remedy the issues stated above. It’s been reported that resetting a Vizio or smart TV, in general, can cure these issues.

Resetting a Vizio Smart TV

If you realize that your Vizio smart TV is having one or more of the difficulties listed above, resetting it is a simple solution.

There are two types of resets available on Vizio smart TVs: soft reset and hard reset.

Resetting Your Vizio Smart TV– Soft reset

Because it is simple and effective, Vizio technical support normally recommends a soft reset as the first step in troubleshooting.

Switching off your smart TV for a few minutes before turning it back on is known as a soft reset (power cycling).

You may erase your Vizio smart TV‘s specific settings, dissipate the leftover charge, and restart the TV without losing personal information by soft resetting it.

Follow these instructions to soft reset your television:

  • Remove the power cord from the TV’s socket.
  • Hold the TV’s power button for 3 to 5 seconds before releasing it.
  • Turn the TV back on by reconnecting the power cord.
  • You may make your TV go through a power cycle using the menu choices on some models:
  • On your TV’s remote, press the Menu button.
  • Select System, then Reset and Admin.
  • Lastly, select Soft Power Cycle.

Soft Power Cycle is the option to choose as the TV will switch off and resume on its own once you’ve done this.

Vizio Smart TV Hard Reset

A hard reset is a more comprehensive option for troubleshooting. It includes deleting the system memory, resetting firmware, and returning your smart TV to its factory condition, much like the soft reset (when you first took it out of the box).

Just like you should attempt a soft reset on your smartphone first to see if it helps before completing a hard reset, the same applies to a Vizio Smart TV.

If you find yourself in need of a hard reset, you have two options:

Method 1: Vizio Smart TV Hard Reset

If you want to hard reset your Vizio smart TV properly, you’ll need to have your remote control nearby. Follow these procedures to do a hard reset:

  • Disconnect your TV from your wireless network.
  • On your remote, press the Menu button.
  • Once you’ve entered the menu, go to System and choose Ok.
  • Click on Ok after selecting Reset & Admin.
  • Select Reset TV to Factory State from the drop-down menu and hit OK.
  • Enter the code for your parental lock (for most Vizio smart TVs, the default parental lock code is 0000).
  • Press Ok after selecting reset.
  • Wait until your television has turned off.
  • Your television will reboot, clearing all existing setups and settings before displaying a fresh setup page.
  • Connect your router to your Wi-Fi network, complete the setup procedure, and rejoin.

While this approach may not work on earlier Vizio smart TV models, it will work on all modern models.

Method 2:Vizio Smart TV Hard Reset

If the first technique fails to reset your Vizio TV, you may need to attempt the following procedure:

  • Turn off your television but leave it hooked into the wall outlet.
  • Keep both the CH+ and CH- buttons on your TV remote depressed.
  • Before releasing the Power button on the top of the remote, press it for roughly 5 seconds.
  • At the same time, release the CH+ and CH- buttons.
  • On your remote, press the Menu button.
  • Your television will turn on and offer a menu.
  • The bottom-right corner of the screen will have an F icon, indicating that it is a factory configuration screen.
  • For 3-5 seconds, choose and hold the Menu button.
  • A Service menu should appear on your television.

You should be able to travel through the factory reset options from there.

Last Thoughts

A Vizio smart TV may be reset in one of two ways: soft reset or hard reset.

If you need to reset your TV for whatever reason, performing a soft reset first is strongly advised. However, if the problem with your television still persists, you may need to do a hard reset.

If your Vizio smart TV is still having problems after a reset, contact Vizio’s technical support to talk with an expert.
