How to Reset a Ring Door Sensor

In this article, I explain how to reset a Ring Door Sensor.

The sensors are designed to trigger the alarm when a door or window is open, and if they are not working correctly, you may need to reset them.

When do you need to reset your Ring Door Sensors?

If you have a hard time syncing the ring sensor to the alarm system, you may consider the reset process.

Make sure you have already tried other simple things, such as removing the sensor's battery and inserting it back into its place, and you followed the steps on the mobile App to get the job done.

If that doesn't solve the problem, just move to the next step (reset).

How to identify the sensor's generation

The easiest way to identify the sensor's generation is by looking at them.

See the picture below as a reference for identification.

How to reset the 1st generation Ring contact sensor

Here are the steps to reset the sensors:

  • Remove the sensor's cover;
  • Locate the tamper button;
  • Press and hold the button;
  • Insert the battery (while holding the button);
  • Wait until the LED stops flashing;
  • Release the button.
  • And it's done.

    Now you can place the sensor cover back.

    How to reset the 2nd generation Ring contact sensor

    Just follow the steps below to reset the sensor:

  • Remove the sensor's cover;
  • Locate the reset button hole;
  • Insert a reset needle or paperclip into the hole;
  • Press and hold the reset button;
  • Wait for the LED to turn RED;
  • Release the reset button.
  • And you are done.

    You may see the LED flashing green while holding the button, but please don't release it until you see the LED change to RED.

    After finishing the reset process, you can place the sensor cover back.

    The sensor status after the reset procedure

    After the reset, the sensor comes back to its default settings.

    It's necessary to start the setup process from scratch to sync it again to your Ring Alarm System. Just use the Ring App to do it.

    Conclusion

    You can reset your Ring Door Sensor by just pressing and holding the reset button and waiting for the LED indication. The reset process is pretty fast, and the sensor comes back to its default settings.

    Make sure to identify the sensor's generation before getting started.

    After the resetting process, you may be able to re-sync the sensor to the alarm system.
