Defective and faulty products are bound to happen with most products out there. So what do you do if your Govee lights aren’t working?

Before reading on, keep in mind that the lights not turning on when they already worked are not the same as them not working once plugged in for the first time.

If the Govee lights aren’t working, it could be due to other issues. However, if they previously turned on and have now stopped, you should check out our other article.

Test drive

Checking before installing is not only smart but essential too. Can you imagine going through so much hassle to hang up your lights just to have them not work?

Once you receive your package, plug it in and test it. To ensure that the lights turn on and are working correctly before installation.

To be able to do this, you will first need to pull everything out of the box.

Plug the pin connector to the lights and then attach it to the control unit. You will then need to connect the control unit with the power box and plug it in the outlet.

When it is all set up, make sure to click on the first button to ensure it turns on correctly and works just fine.

If you want to go a step further and connect it to your phone to ensure it works, you can go ahead.

As well as setting up a connection with your home assistant. Keep in mind the Govee Lights work with both Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa incredibly.

Pin connection

When putting together your Govee Light strip, you might remember the pin connector.

This connects the LED strip directly to the control unit, which, in turn, is connected to the power unit that plugs into the outlet.

You will need to check all of these points to ensure your Govee Lights might not turn on because they are broken.

After making sure that all of the points are plugged incorrectly, you should check the outlets.

Plug in a phone charger or anything else that can instantly let you know if the outlet is working.

For instance, some homes, like mine, have light switches that can control whether outlets stop working or not.

Therefore, you should figure out if the outlet is the problem before assuming that the problem is the LED strip.

After testing all of the hacks above out, if your Govee lights aren’t working, you can return them, or get in touch with Govee directly.

I have had no issues with the product so far and highly recommend it. I have found it to be extremely high-quality and affordable.

The bottom line

Though your lights can possibly be faulty and need to be replaced, it is best to check all the possible problems first.

It might be something you are doing instead of a defective product. In my experience, Govee Smart Lights is very high quality, from their products to their app, as well as affordable.

What would you purchase from Govee next? Let us know down below!

Want to know what to do with your leftover LED strips? Should you reuse, renew, and recycle? Or is extending your Govee LED Lights more worth your time?

Keep in mind that extending and reusing are not the same when it comes to installing your Govee Smart Lights.

The difference

When you reuse a strip, you are merely reattaching it to the original strip utilizing connectors. However, that is not the same as extending.

Extending would be adding more to the strip that is already full. And this can be potentially harmful is some ways.

Meaning that reusing your LED strip by moving it around from place to place and using connectors is more worth your time in the long run.

Reusing

If you are leaning towards reusing your LED Light Strip, that is a whole different thing. Here is a preview of the article to answer your question:

With the provided Govee clips or any compatible clipping connectors, you can quickly get around corners. You will need to cut along the provided lines and clip both sides into the clip.

Therefore, you do not have to throw away straps if you have connectors. For example, if you want to relocate your lights.

You can simply stick them onto something else, and exchange a corner clip to a straight connector.

Therefore, you can reuse Govee Lights LEDs and cut down the cost of buying a brand new pack.

This can be extremely beneficial as you would only need to spend around $10 to transfer and reuse Govee Lights using connectors that can be easy to find.

Extending

Just like you would not casually pump some gas into an electric car, you should care about your Govee Lights.

Though every country is different, there is a set amount of voltage that flows through your outlets. Therefore, the power unit of Govee is set for a limited amount of strips.

While adding one strip might not affect the overall lights, adding more and more can damage your lights. Mainly because one outlet is powering more than one whole LED strip.

If you are looking for more LED lights, it is more worth your money to invest in one more strip than to have one break and end up buying two more.

Or, just overall, invest in a longer LED strip from Govee that you can cut and end up reusing later on.

It is honestly more worth it than breaking all your LED lights and giving you more issues.

The bottom line

Extending your Govee LED Lights are not worth it. Mainly due to the low cost of Govee products. Their products are highly affordable, and you can pick between shorter or longer strips.

Remember, it is always better to renew, reuse, and recycle, than to try expending your Govee LED Lights and having them break!

Would you reuse your Govee Lights? Let us know down below.

ADD AFFILIATE LINK

Govee offers RGB and RGBIC strips that differ in a couple ways. As well as some waterproof models that you can find.

RGB or RGBIC?

Both the types of lights have their pros and cons. It is up to you to decide which one you like better.

RGB

I have personally reviewed a Govee Smart Light RGB LED Strip and have loved it. Though you cannot have access to some features included with the RGBIC.

Pros

The RGB LED strip can be cut into smaller portions, which is excellent for installing in such places where you can go around corners or chop the excess off.

The brightness at night is impressive, and even at 1%, it still lights up a room.

It was a great add-on to my room as I placed it under my bed. And for young kids, this can totally be a fun nightlight to have!

Cons

It is cuttable because it does not contain an IC chip, but it also means that the strip can only stay in one color at a time.

Other LED strips can range in color and have an ombre effect.

Though bright, it is not as radiant as an RGBIC strip, which is not as potent and can light up a room way better.

RGBIC

The RGBIC is a new technology to display the colors and can make a room pop! One strip can be multiple colors and blend together.

Pros

All thanks to the IC or Independent Control chip that gives you the power to display multiple colors in one light strip at the same time. And you can gain control of each segment’s color.

It is also “Ultra- Bright” and leaves RGB in the dust when it comes to its brightness.

However, you won’t be able to leave it overnight for a nightlight, for example, as it will be way to bright.

Cons

Though the different colors in the RGBIC strip can be fun, it also means it cannot be cut.

Therefore, it can be harder to install in walls in which you cannot utilize a clipping connector.Waterproof products

Some products were fabricated for outdoor use, such as the motorcycle lights, outdoor lights, and under-car lights. However, you should be careful with them as well.

Govee waterproof lights state that they are “Weatherproof & Durable.”

Some outdoor model lights claim to be “Made from heavy-duty wire and shatterproof plastic bulbs, and have special waterproof sockets.”

They also claim that their waterproof sockets “form a seal around the bulb string lights to keep water out.” And therefore keep them safe from any rain that may occur outside.

Meaning that you do not have to worry about your lights if it looks a little cloudy. Yet you should always protect the outlet as it might cause damage if it gets wet.

To simplify your purchasing experience, I have made a list of the non-waterproof and waterproof LED Strips that are sold by Govee down below.

Waterproof

Having an extra protection, especially from water can be a great thing. Check out the list below to see which Govee LED models are waterproof and which aren’t!

So what is the difference between RGB strip lights and RGBIC strip lights? Which is better? RGB or RGBIC?

Pros and cons

Both the RGB and RCBIV LED strips from Govee Smart Lights are exceptional and affordable products. However, they differ significantly, and both present their strengths.

You cannot achieve some things with an RGBIC strip that can be done with an RGB one. And vice versa.

Like for example, cutting the strip…

Can you cut Govee LED Lights?

To cut Govee Lights, you will need to make sure you have the right type of LED Strip. RGB LED Strips can be cut. This is because they do not contain an IC chip.

Meaning they can be cut in certain areas and will continue to work. However, they are also the type of lights that cannot be multiple colors at once.

On the other hand, the RGBIC Strips can’t be cut simply because they have an IC chip, and the lights will not work if you cut it.

Therefore, you will not find cutting lines along this particular model.

RGB

I have personally reviewed a Govee Smart Light RGB LED Strip and have loved it. Though you cannot have access to some features included with the RGBIC.

The bottom line

Whether you pick the RGB or RCBIV LED strips from Govee Smart Lights, you are going to receive both a quality product and have a lot of fun with either.

Keep in mind that both have their pros and cons, but that should not spot you from purchasing either. Especially because they are inexpensive.

So much so, you might buy one of each and not reach the price point of other brands.

Which LED type would you want to get? RGB or RGBIC? Let us know below?

Not all lengths work for everyone. Therefore, you might have to do some trimming of your own. So can you cut Govee LED Lights?

The answer can vary due to the type of LED Lights you are utilizing. This is because not all LED Strips Govee sells are the same.

For example, the one I purchased and reviewed is an RGB LED Light.

How to cut

When cutting, you should follow a small black line that marks the cutting points. They are between closed circuits.

Therefore, if you are utilizing the right type of LED Strip, you can trim the strip as you wish.

However, you should make sure you are cutting with a sharp scissor and have a precise cut to ensure your lights will work.

Once cut, you can connect parts through the provided clips to go through corners with a more accurate and clean look.

Be aware that if you have an extra strip that is not connected to the rest of the lights, it will not work as it will not be receiving any electricity.

The alternative

The Govee LED Strip Lights manual explains that you can loop the LED Strip as opposed to cutting.

Utilizing this method can easily connect Govee lights together through corners, and you will not need to purchase extra clips or connectors.

This is how I did it as I placed it under my bed; however, the location is hidden from sight.

Therefore, if installing onto a wall, you might want to stick with the connectors as they are sure going to give you a better and cleaner look!

The bottom line

All in all, both the types of Govee Lights that can be purchased are affordable and easily installed.

However, in some cases, the Govee Light Strips can be somewhat long for certain projects, therefore being able to cut your strips can be beneficial.

As well as utilizing the clips to cut the strip to your desired length and be able to secure corners in your desired installing spot.

What type of Govee LED Lights would you purchase? RGB or RGBIC? Let us know below?

For an inexpensive pop of color in any room you desire, the LED strips from Govee are a fun and interactive toy for anyone! But are Govee Lights safe? Or should you invest in a safer alternative?

A common question that is asked is whether the Govee Lights are waterproof, which would then make them safer. We have previously talked about this.

Are Govee Lights waterproof?

Well, it all depends. The Govee Lights I purchased were the “H6159” model, which is for indoor use. However, there are plenty of models out there.

You should also be aware that some models are meant to be used for indoor use only. Unlike other models, they do not have protective barriers. They should not be placed outside or exposed to any type of weather or water.

Govee manufactures LEDs to be placed in walls, behind TVs, and for indoor usage. But these are not the only available lights.

Waterproof products

Some products were fabricated for outdoor use, such as the motorcycle lights, outdoor lights, and under-car lights. However, you should be careful with them as well.

Govee waterproof lights state that they are “Weatherproof & Durable.” Some outdoor model lights claim to be “Made from heavy-duty wire and shatterproof plastic bulbs, and have special waterproof sockets.”

If you want to look at the list of Govee LED Lights that are waterproof and the ones that are not, check our other article about waterproof Govee Lights.

Whether or not the LED lights are waterproof, Govee Lights have near impeccable customer reviews and quality product. Though you should take some matters into your own hands.

Prevention

There are measures you can take to ensure that the LEDs will not be damaged and keep you safer.

For instance, keeping the cables far from the ground if you have pets or young children can help keep them safe and stop animals from chewing cables. Which can leave wires exposed or even shock your pets.

Keeping the LEDs off when not needed is also a great precaution, especially if you are not home. They need to cool down like many other machines to make sure they will not cause any damage.

Lastly, if you purchase a non-waterproof Govee Lights strip, make sure to quickly clean up if you spill water and immediately unplug it from the outlet.

This could be the difference between ruining your lights or saving them. So be extra careful and place them somewhere far from water.

The bottom line

Overall, after reviewing the Govee Lights LED strips, I found them to be high-quality as well as affordable and safe. Though there are precautions you must take, they are incredible!

Let us know down below where you would place your LED lights!

Let’s look into whether you can reuse Govee Lights or not.

Cutting off

What can you do if your LED strip is longer than you need it to be? It might depend on the type of LED strip you bought.

Connecting Corners

With the provided Govee clips or any compatible clipping connectors, you can quickly get around corners. You will need to cut along the provided lines and clip both sides into the clip.

Therefore, you do not have to throw away straps if you have connectors. For example, if you want to relocate your lights.

You can simply stick them onto something else, and exchange a corner clip to a straight connector and connect the Govee Lights together.

Therefore, you can reuse Govee Lights LEDs and cut down the cost of buying a brand new pack.

This can be extremely beneficial as you would only need to spend around $10 to transfer and reuse Govee Lights using connectors that can be easy to find.

One room only

You cannot buy one pack of LEDs and use them in two different places. Some other supplies and installing would be needed to achieve this task.

For example, you cannot cut your Govee LED strip in half and use them in different rooms. Only one of the strips can be connected to the power supply and control unit included.

However, though it can be done, you would need to locate and purchase the items and put them together yourself.

Therefore, unless you have made a wrong cut and want to attach it once again utilizing connectors, the leftover straps are useless without a power supplying unit.

Keep in mind that even if you complete the task and connect the leftover LED straps to another power supply, it might not be controlled by the app or your home assistants.

The bottom line

Overall, it is excellent to reduce reuse and recycle all while saving you money. And it is possible to reuse Govee Lights when moving them to another space or room.

However, when talking about reusing leftover strips, that will take some manual work itself, as well as locating and purchasing all the parts to attach it together.

At the inexpensive price point in which Govee sells their products, I found that there is no need to reuse the straps.

You will probably end up spending more money than just purchasing a new box.

Where would you place your LED lights? Let us know down below!

Nothing is worse than receiving a faulty product. But there are ways to make sure it isn’t something wrong with your installation. Let’s look at some reasons why Govee Lights might not turn on.

Keep in mind that if you damaged the lights in any way, it could alter the results you will receive. Including water damage, cutting a wrong strip, or cable damage.

For example, if you spilled a glass of water in the control unit, it might not work at all anymore. And you will probably need to have it replaced.

Test drive

Checking before installing is not only smart but essential too. Can you imagine going through so much hassle to hang up your lights just to have them not work?

Once you receive your package, plug it in and test it quickly to make sure that the lights turn on and are working correctly before installation.

Therefore, you should figure out if the outlet is the problem before moving on to the next step.

Connecting issues

Your Govee Lights might not turn on due to a bad connection between the App, or home assistants with the Govee LED Lights. Or it can be an issue with your home WiFi making it unable for the App and assistants to connect to your lights.

App

You might have connected the wrong lights to the App. Reconnecting the LED strip to the Govee Home App takes just a couple of minutes and can quickly solve your issue.

Just delete the LED light and establish the connection once again.

Home assistant

Keep in mind that in my experience reviewing the Govee Lights strips, the commands can vary in time when utilizing a home assistant.

Therefore, I would have to wait a minute or two before it could change the lights’ color or turn on at all. Whether you are using Google Home or Amazon Alexa, the connection process is quick and straightforward.

It might alter based on the WiFi connection, or you can attempt to reconnect the lights as it might help it go faster.

The bottom line

There is simply a lot you can attempt before coming to the conclusion that your Govee Lights might not turn on because they are faulty.

If you have an issue with your Govee Lights and found a way to fix it, make sure to share it below so others can try it too!

Ever wanted to throw yourself a little party in your room or even in the living room sofa? With Govee Smart Lights on music mode, you can!

ADD AFFILIATE LINK

Govee Smart Lights even has music mode and different scenes that change color and can be a set through the App.

Meaning you might want to go for Govee Smart Lights as it is exceptionally affordable and fun!

Controlling the lights

The Govee Smart Lights allow you to control them through the App, a control unit, and a home assistant.

App

The App definitely falls on the pro list. Not only is it quick and easy to set up, but it gives you plenty of controls to mess and play around with.

Brightness, color, and on/ off control can be found in the App, so can music mode, custom color, and scenes.

Through the App, you can group and control multiple lights at the same time or separately.

I found the App easy to navigate and control any room with the click of a button.

The reaction time with the App is immediate, and it has excellent features, especially for how inexpensive it is.

Control unit

The control unit is easy to place anywhere as it has a 3M backing and can stick to almost anything.

There are three buttons on the control unit, and it is the fastest way to control the lights.

The top button turns the Govee Smart Lights on and off. Followed by the button that changes the LED’s colors.

Lastly, the bottom button controls both the brightness when you hold it down, as well as turning the music feature on and off.

Home assistant

You can also control the Govee Smart Lights via Amazon Echo or Google Home.

Using commands, you can turn the lights on and off as well as changing colors. But music mode and scenes cannot be activated by a home assistant.

Music mode

It seems remarkably fun to be able to jam out to music while the lights flash with the beat. However, the microphone is rather sensitive in more ways than one.

In some instances, nothing is playing, yet the lights flicker from the noises around, such as the air conditioning.

Yet, if music is playing at a reasonable distance, it is not picked up by the microphone.

Therefore, if you genuinely care about this feature, we suggest placing the microphone, which is located in the control unit next to the speakers.

Additionally, through the App, you will find other music mode features that allow you to control whether the colors flash and range in color or if they continuously flash in the same color.

Overall, even though when I reviewed the product, the music mode was not what I expected. It is still fun to have as long as you place your music close to the microphone.
