Once you receive your package, plug it in and test it. To ensure that the lights turn on and are working correctly before installation.

With the provided Govee clips or any compatible clipping connectors, you can quickly get around corners. You will need to cut along the provided lines and clip both sides into the clip. 

Therefore, you do not have to throw away straps if you have connectors. For example, if you want to relocate your lights.

You can simply stick them onto something else, and exchange a corner clip to a straight connector. 

Therefore, you can reuse Govee Lights LEDs and cut down the cost of buying a brand new pack.

This can be extremely beneficial as you would only need to spend around $10 to transfer and reuse Govee Lights using connectors that can be easy to find.

Extending

Just like you would not casually pump some gas into an electric car, you should care about your Govee Lights.

Though every country is different, there is a set amount of voltage that flows through your outlets. Therefore, the power unit of Govee is set for a limited amount of strips.

While adding one strip might not affect the overall lights, adding more and more can damage your lights. Mainly because one outlet is powering more than one whole LED strip.

If you are looking for more LED lights, it is more worth your money to invest in one more strip than to have one break and end up buying two more.

Or, just overall, invest in a longer LED strip from Govee that you can cut and end up reusing later on. 

It is honestly more worth it than breaking all your LED lights and giving you more issues.

The bottom line

Extending your Govee LED Lights are not worth it. Mainly due to the low cost of Govee products. Their products are highly affordable, and you can pick between shorter or longer strips.

Remember, it is always better to renew, reuse, and recycle, than to try expending your Govee LED Lights and having them break!

Both the types of lights have their pros and cons. It is up to you to decide which one you like better.

RGB

I have personally reviewed a Govee Smart Light RGB LED Strip and have loved it. Though you cannot have access to some features included with the RGBIC.

Pros

The RGB LED strip can be cut into smaller portions, which is excellent for installing in such places where you can go around corners or chop the excess off.

The brightness at night is impressive, and even at 1%, it still lights up a room. 

It was a great add-on to my room as I placed it under my bed. And for young kids, this can totally be a fun nightlight to have!

Cons

It is cuttable because it does not contain an IC chip, but it also means that the strip can only stay in one color at a time. 

Other LED strips can range in color and have an ombre effect.

Though bright, it is not as radiant as an RGBIC strip, which is not as potent and can light up a room way better.

RGBIC

The RGBIC is a new technology to display the colors and can make a room pop! One strip can be multiple colors and blend together.

Pros

All thanks to the IC or Independent Control chip that gives you the power to display multiple colors in one light strip at the same time. And you can gain control of each segment’s color.

It is also “Ultra- Bright” and leaves RGB in the dust when it comes to its brightness. 

However, you won’t be able to leave it overnight for a nightlight, for example, as it will be way to bright.

Cons

Though the different colors in the RGBIC strip can be fun, it also means it cannot be cut. 

Therefore, it can be harder to install in walls in which you cannot utilize a clipping connector.Waterproof products

Some products were fabricated for outdoor use, such as the motorcycle lights, outdoor lights, and under-car lights. However, you should be careful with them as well.

Govee waterproof lights state that they are “Weatherproof & Durable.” 

Some outdoor model lights claim to be “Made from heavy-duty wire and shatterproof plastic bulbs, and have special waterproof sockets.” 

They also claim that their waterproof sockets “form a seal around the bulb string lights to keep water out.” And therefore keep them safe from any rain that may occur outside. 

Meaning that you do not have to worry about your lights if it looks a little cloudy. Yet you should always protect the outlet as it might cause damage if it gets wet.

How to cut

When cutting, you should follow a small black line that marks the cutting points. They are between closed circuits. 

Therefore, if you are utilizing the right type of LED Strip, you can trim the strip as you wish.

However, you should make sure you are cutting with a sharp scissor and have a precise cut to ensure your lights will work. 

Once cut, you can connect parts through the provided clips to go through corners with a more accurate and clean look.

Be aware that if you have an extra strip that is not connected to the rest of the lights, it will not work as it will not be receiving any electricity.

The alternative

The Govee LED Strip Lights manual explains that you can loop the LED Strip as opposed to cutting.

Utilizing this method can easily connect Govee lights together through corners, and you will not need to purchase extra clips or connectors. 

This is how I did it as I placed it under my bed; however, the location is hidden from sight. 

Therefore, if installing onto a wall, you might want to stick with the connectors as they are sure going to give you a better and cleaner look!

The bottom line

All in all, both the types of Govee Lights that can be purchased are affordable and easily installed. 

However, in some cases, the Govee Light Strips can be somewhat long for certain projects, therefore being able to cut your strips can be beneficial.

As well as utilizing the clips to cut the strip to your desired length and be able to secure corners in your desired installing spot.

Govee manufactures LEDs to be placed in walls, behind TVs, and for indoor usage. But these are not the only available lights.

Some products were fabricated for outdoor use, such as the motorcycle lights, outdoor lights, and under-car lights. However, you should be careful with them as well.

Keeping the LEDs off when not needed is also a great precaution, especially if you are not home. They need to cool down like many other machines to make sure they will not cause any damage. 

Lastly, if you purchase a non-waterproof Govee Lights strip, make sure to quickly clean up if you spill water and immediately unplug it from the outlet.

This could be the difference between ruining your lights or saving them. So be extra careful and place them somewhere far from water.

However, though it can be done, you would need to locate and purchase the items and put them together yourself. 

Therefore, unless you have made a wrong cut and want to attach it once again utilizing connectors, the leftover straps are useless without a power supplying unit.

Keep in mind that even if you complete the task and connect the leftover LED straps to another power supply, it might not be controlled by the app or your home assistants.

The bottom line

Overall, it is excellent to reduce reuse and recycle all while saving you money. And it is possible to reuse Govee Lights when moving them to another space or room.

However, when talking about reusing leftover strips, that will take some manual work itself, as well as locating and purchasing all the parts to attach it together.

At the inexpensive price point in which Govee sells their products, I found that there is no need to reuse the straps.

Just delete the LED light and establish the connection once again.

Home assistant

Keep in mind that in my experience reviewing the Govee Lights strips, the commands can vary in time when utilizing a home assistant.

Therefore, I would have to wait a minute or two before it could change the lights’ color or turn on at all. Whether you are using Google Home or Amazon Alexa, the connection process is quick and straightforward.

It might alter based on the WiFi connection, or you can attempt to reconnect the lights as it might help it go faster. 

The bottom line

There is simply a lot you can attempt before coming to the conclusion that your Govee Lights might not turn on because they are faulty.

Controlling the lights

The Govee Smart Lights allow you to control them through the App, a control unit, and a home assistant.

App

The App definitely falls on the pro list. Not only is it quick and easy to set up, but it gives you plenty of controls to mess and play around with. 

Brightness, color, and on/ off control can be found in the App, so can music mode, custom color, and scenes. 

Through the App, you can group and control multiple lights at the same time or separately.

I found the App easy to navigate and control any room with the click of a button. 

The reaction time with the App is immediate, and it has excellent features, especially for how inexpensive it is.

Control unit

The control unit is easy to place anywhere as it has a 3M backing and can stick to almost anything. 

There are three buttons on the control unit, and it is the fastest way to control the lights.

The top button turns the Govee Smart Lights on and off. Followed by the button that changes the LED’s colors. 

Lastly, the bottom button controls both the brightness when you hold it down, as well as turning the music feature on and off.

Home assistant

You can also control the Govee Smart Lights via Amazon Echo or Google Home. 

Using commands, you can turn the lights on and off as well as changing colors. But music mode and scenes cannot be activated by a home assistant.

Music mode

It seems remarkably fun to be able to jam out to music while the lights flash with the beat. However, the microphone is rather sensitive in more ways than one.

In some instances, nothing is playing, yet the lights flicker from the noises around, such as the air conditioning. 

Yet, if music is playing at a reasonable distance, it is not picked up by the microphone.

Therefore, if you genuinely care about this feature, we suggest placing the microphone, which is located in the control unit next to the speakers. 

Additionally, through the App, you will find other music mode features that allow you to control whether the colors flash and range in color or if they continuously flash in the same color.

The bottom line

Overall, even though when I reviewed the product, the music mode was not what I expected. It is still fun to have as long as you place your music close to the microphone.
