How do I test my ADT alarm?

In this article, I answer the question, "How to I test my ADT alarm?".

It's something super simple to do. I will guide you step-by-step in the process.

Let's get started.

How to test the ADT alarm system

To make sure your ADT alarm is working fine, you need to arm it in test mode, open the door and windows and then check for the activity log.

The idea is to make the door and window sensors send a signal to the panel without notifying the ADT monitoring center. So, you need to enable the test mode.

How to put the ADT alarm in test mode

It's possible to put the system in test mode using your mobile phone or the portal.

Put the alarm in test mode via the portal

Here's an example of how to to use the portal.

  • Login in to your ADT.com account;
  • Click the Alarm System tab on the left;
  • Click the System Teste tab;
  • Select the test duration;
  • Click "Start Test Mode".

You can choose the duration for the test mode; usually, 1 hour is enough.

Put the alarm in test mode via mobile phone

You can use the mobile App to put the ADT alarm in test mode.

Here are the steps.

  • Tap "System > System Test"';
  • Select the Test Mode Duration;
  • Tab "Start Test Mode".

And now it's time to test the alarm.

How to test the Alarm

Now that test mode is active, please arm the alarm via panel (armed away) and start opening the doors and windows to check if the system receives the signal.

You can hear the alarm for about 60s and make sure it's working fine.

To stop the test, just disarm your security system by entering your code in the panel or by taping "End Test Mode" in the mobile App.

And it's done. Pretty easy, isn't it?

Test the Alarm regularly

ADT recommends testing the alarm system every 30 days to ensure it's sending signals to the monitoring center. If you have any questions, please visit the ADT website or give them a call.
