ADT Yellow Triangle: What Does it Mean?

I know you are here because of the ADT yellow triangle, right?

I bet you own an ADT DSC Impassa, and there's a little annoying triangle LED on the right side of the keypad that is driving you crazy 🙂

To make things worst, sometimes you hear a  double beep. Don't you?

In this article, I explain what the yellow triangle means and how to turn it off.

The Yellow Triangle on The ADT Alarm Keypad

The yellow triangle on the ADT Alarm keypad indicates an issue with the alarm system that requires your attention. Press the *2 (star followed by 2) keys to see a message with the information about the problem.

You can also press the # key to stop the beep (warning sound).

Now, let's take a look at the possible issues related to the yellow triangle warning.

Zone with Low Battery

The keypad indicates which zone is running low on battery so that you can replace it with a new one. After finishing the replacement, please clear the error by disarming and arming the system again.

AC Power Loss

When there's a power loss, the alarm system indicates the problem by showing the yellow triangle; however, there's no beeping sound. You can still see the warning symbol because the system runs on the backup battery, but it's necessary to fix the power outage to get the system running.

Check the cables, and everything that could cause the lack of power to the system.

Phone Connection Problem

The system doesn't work properly without a phone connection.

Check the wiring and connections to make sure the alarm system can communicate with the monitoring center. To troubleshoot the problem, please read the articles on how to fix the failure to communicate issue.

The Time and Date Are Not Correct

It's crucial to have the correct date and time for any alarm or security system, so adjust the alarm clock to make sure it's accurate.

Press the *6 keys followed by your master code plus 1 to change the date and time in the alarm system (DSC Impassa) and then adjust the clock and press # to finish.

A Zone is Open

The system alerts you if one of the zones is open.

Press the 5 key on the alarm keypad to check which zone is open or having some issues. Then walk to the location where the sensors are installed to check and correct the problem with the zone.

A Zone is Tampered

Sometimes you can have a tampered zone, and it's necessary to fix it to clear the yellow triangle warning. Press the 6 key in the keypad to see which zone is having such an issue and check the area to fix the problem.

Communication Failure

If the communication is not working correctly, you need to investigate the problem to find the failure and fix it. The problem is usually related to a bad wire connection or backup failure (bF). Talk to your ADT dealer and ask for help.

Conclusion

The ADT yellow triangle can scare you at first, but it's not a big problem.

Most of the time, it's not necessary even to call a technician because you can diagnose and fix the problem by yourself and get rid of the annoying warning.

By following the guidelines in this article, you will have your system up and running very fast. However, if you can't figure out what is wrong with your ADT alarm system, please don't hesitate to contact your local dealer and ask for support.
